Hip-Hop Rumors: Janet & Mariah: The Scoop! Juelz's Cut Weeds! Eddie ...

Dunno if you've seen the reports of Bishop Lamont saying that he believes Joell Got dropped, but what I have heard is that's a misunderstanding. Sure, there are people that get dropped from Aftermath. But Joell Ortiiz isn't one of them. From what I heard, he was really a bit tired of waiting and getting acclaim, but seeing no forward movement.

Joell formally requested a release from Aftermath. I heard Dr. Dre really didn't want want to let him go, because he likes Joell. From what I hear, they both had a man-to-man conversation and they agreed to go their separate ways. I think it was a case where Interscope wants Detox and Em's next CD before anything and anybody. That means another year MINIMUM for anybody else barring a 50 Cent-type rapper.

Joell didn't want to wait, I am hearing.

Blowhards and Windbags

I read an item in ABC News' The Note yesterday that almost perfectly encapsulates the myopia that currently drives our national political coverage, making it, in many ways worse than useless. Take a look:

As expected, Obama picked up the endorsement of the culinary union in Nevada, the biggest organized labor "get" in the state, ABC's Teddy Davis and Sunlen Miller report. Obama grabs some muscle, but Clinton heads to Nevada on Thursday with the campaign narrative gusting at her back. "Her victory left her resurgent heading into the Nevada caucus," J Patrick Coolican writes in the Las Vegas Sun. "Clinton is now the protagonist in a new national narrative. Although it's not clear why so many New Hampshire voters turned to Clinton, obliterating Obama's double-digit lead in the polls, what is known is that in the final 48 hours, she revealed new emotion and fire and openness to the press and public.

Credit Card Industry Booming, Despite Treacherous Stock Market This ...

No, that's not your spouse (or even your accountant) talking. Rather, it's an admonition that may be a useful guide to navigating a treacherous stock market this fall — the time that has historically been less than an auspicious season for stocks … and this one looks particularly dicey.

At issue: whether the shutdown in vast swaths of the credit markets will ripple through the rest of the economy. So far, officials from Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson to Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke have assured investors that the mortgage mess bears watching, but it's still pretty well contained. In other words, a few hundred thousand families, or perhaps a few million will lose their homes, but outside of that, the consumer economy will not suffer.

That myth is increasingly showing cracks.

Extra! UIdaho Student Found Shot to Death

After a year or two on the job, they make good money and benefits, in addition to the amenities of living in this area. How many in our county are paid $30.00 to $45.00 or more an hour, including benefits? A number of them are two teacher families, and have an RV and boat parked in their driveway. The IEA is a UNION!
While, there are many dedicated, excellent teachers, a lot only look at the bottom line, and are able to hold our children hostage until they get more salary and benefits.

Arpie: I just got out my December 06 pay stub so I could tell you what last year looked like. At age 48, having taught since 1981, my gross pay was a little less than $46,000 last year. Subtract from that $7,000 in taxes, including social security: $6,000 for my familys health insurance, and $3,000 for my half of my retirement, and the total dwindles quickly as it does for anyone that is trying to support a family.

Nonprofit group adapts homes to fit wheelchairs

At 4 years old and 40 pounds, with dark curly hair and round eyes that peer from glasses a little too big for her nose, Glorianna Jackson is the kind of cute that melts hearts. And, like parents everywhere, Glorianna's just want the best for her.

What would best serve Glorianna are a front-porch ramp and a new bathroom with a universal design. Glorianna was born with spina bifida, a disabling birth defect of the spine. She uses a wheelchair, and it's likely she will never be able to walk without the aid of crutches.

"She's getting heavier every day," says her mother, Lisa Jackson, "and it's harder and harder to lift her."

Health business briefs: BlueCross subsidiary rates well

Volunteer State Health Plan, a wholly owned subsidiary of BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee, said it earned the 36th and 43rd spots in the U.S. News & World Report/NCQA America's Best Health Plan 2007 rankings for Medicaid plans. It was among the top three performing plans statewide.

The rankings are based on clinical quality and member satisfaction surveys. Chattanooga-based Volunteer State said BlueCare and TennCareSelects serve more than 300,000 members of TennCare, Tennessee's Medicaid program.

The B.C.-born artist who brought Rudolf to life

She knew Dasher and Dancer, and Prancer and Vixen, but Sarala Godine never knew she had a family link to the most famous reindeer of all.

Then she learned that her uncle had drawn the first version of Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer.

"I'd always heard about some kind of family connection, and at one time thought my uncle had written the book," Godine said at her Fairfield house.
